Indigenous aircraft carrier INS Vikrant handed over to Indian Navy

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday commissioned India's first indigenously built aircraft carrier — INS Vikrant in Kochi.

Kochi, Sep 2- INS Vikrant is not just a warship but a testament to India’s hard work, talent, impact and commitment in the 21st century, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said here.

Till today, India had only one aircraft carrier — INS Vikramaditya — which is a Russian origin platform, and is currently undergoing a major refit and is not operational.

The 45,000-ton warship was constructed for 20,000 crore rupees. The largest warship ever constructed in India, the INS Vikrant is 262 metres long and 62 metres broad.
